Is the Atlan MCP server hosted, or do I run it myself?
It is hosted. Atlan runs the endpoint at https://mcp.atlan.com/mcp, so there is nothing to install: you add the URL to your AI client and sign in with your Atlan account.
Do I need an API key for the Atlan MCP server?
No API key is needed for the hosted server. You sign in through Atlan's own OAuth screen, and the assistant only gets the access your account has.
What can an AI assistant actually do with Atlan?
Through this server an assistant can work with data catalog, lineage, governance, metadata — reading from and acting on Atlan directly instead of you copy-pasting between windows. What you allow it to do is controlled by the permissions you grant.
